Spanish talent Ouassim Oumaiz joins the NN Running Team
The NN Running Team is delighted to announce the first Spanish arrival on the team with the recruitment of rising endurance talent Ouassim Oumaiz.
The 21-year-old athlete is an accomplished performer on all surfaces, winning a European Junior Cross Country silver medal in 2018 and last year revealed more of his rich talent when finishing 20th at the World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus – in a race won by NN Running Team superstar Joshua Cheptegei.
This year he has continued to impress, setting a Spanish U23 record 5000m record in Monaco of 13:13.14 and also posting a national senior 5km road record of 13:19 in Nijmegen.
Ouassim will make his debut in NN Running colours in two days (Dec 31) at the annual 10km San Silvestre Vallecana race in Madrid, Spain: “Being part of the NN Running Team is a great opportunity. I am the only Spanish athlete in the team, so it’s very motivational for me to be part of the same team as athletes like Eliud Kipchoge and Joshua Cheptegei. I believe this will make me grow as an athlete and at the same time as a human being.”
“We are extremely happy to add Ouassim to our team. Ouassim is an exciting talent who has already won an international medal. By adding him to the team, I believe he can develop himself as an athlete in the upcoming years. He can learn so much from athletes like Eliud, Kenenisa and Joshua. Together we’re looking forward to a great 2021 campaign.” adds Jos Hermens, director of the NN Running Team.
NN supports European talent and is excited to give them the opportunity to develop themselves in the professional environment of the NN Running Team. In the NN Running Team they can learn and become inspired by the best in the world. Since Ouassim also gets fantastic support from his club, Nerja, he will proudly run his races in Spain in his club singlet. This way Ouassim can show the local and international support he receives, to help him become the best athlete he can.
“From Nationale-Nederlanden we are very proud to have a Spanish athlete in our international running team. And even more proud that the iconic Nationale-Nederlanden San Silvestre race is going to be the first race he joins for the running team”, commented Marije Scholma, CHRO in Nationale-Nederlanden Spain.
