MA RA TH ON | The NN Running Team is back on the start line for a virtual running event on May 22-23
MA RA TH ON is back! Last year a staggering 106.000 runners registered for this virtual event, together they ran a combined 28 laps around the world. Many running events around the world are still being postponed and the desire for all runners to participate in an event is ever so high. That’s why the NN Running Team, together with their partners NN Group and Maurten, figured there is no better time to run together again than now. This year’s event will take place in the weekend of 22 and 23 May. Register now!
MA RA TH ON is a virtual team relay marathon race where people around the world can form a team of four to cover the marathon distance of just over 42 kilometer. Each individual runner will cover 10,5 kilometer and together as a team they have run a full marathon. This event allows participants to safely run solo in their own locations while competing as a team via our virtual standings and a global leader board. Because running is a team sport.
To make it even better - each entered team has the chance to be among one of the 10 teams that will see a NN Running Team-superstar added to their squad. Last year some of the participants became teammates with Eliud Kipchoge, Geoffrey Kamworor, Kenenisa Bekele, Joshua Cheptegei and others! How is that for bragging rights?
Geoffrey Kamworor, the 2019 winner of the TCS New York Marathon and multiple world champion, ran the fastest time during MA RA TH ON 2020. The Kenyan shared his thoughts for this year: “I am very happy that we organize this event again. It has given all the participating athletes a huge motivation in a difficult year. I joined tremendous teammates. I met my team via Zoom last year and we had a great talk and laugh before we ran, they were great. I am excited to see athletes from all over the world join us again this year!”
Jos Hermens, director of the NN Running Team stated: “It is fantastic that we are organizing this event for the second time. Again, in a great collaboration with our title sponsor NN Group and Maurten.
Two weeks ago we organized the NN Mission Marathon, an elite only race. This time we organize an event for everyone because we all miss the excitement of the big mass events.
"This event will bring our athletes and fans together, back on the start line. In these difficult times we like to challenge people to stay active and to go for a run.”

MA RA TH ON will take place on the weekend of May 22-23 with registration opening today on May 3th. Participants can register online at marathon.nnrunningteam.com free of charge. Don’t have a team of four? You can enter solo and we will pair you with a team from fellow runners around the world. The NN Running Team athletes will be randomly added to 10 of the participating teams.
Additional Information
Participants are able to run their section of the race between 12.01am on Saturday May 22 until 11.59pm on Sunday May 23, in consideration of the participants geography.
The competition is free to enter with separate divisions for men, women and mixed teams.
Participating NN Running Team athletes will be randomly assigned to their teams.
Participants must have a (free) Strava account to join.
