The NN Running Team boasts a high-quality quartet of athletes set to challenge at the 129th running of the Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America on Monday 21 April.

Among those looking for a strong performance on the second stop of the 2025 Abbott Marathon Majors circuit is 2023 world marathon champion Victor Kiplangat, who is all set to make his debut appearance in the historic race.

The 25-year-old Ugandan boasts a strong winning record, claiming top spot in the 2021 Istanbul Marathon and a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

A second place finisher in the 2023 Osaka Marathon and boasting a PB of 2:05:09 when fourth in the 2022 Haspa Hamburg Marathon, Kiplangat will be keen to make on impact on the streets of Boston.

Further bolstering the NN Running ranks are the classy Daniel Mateiko who is following up a series of eye-catching results in the half marathon with a growing reputation over the 42.2km distance.

The 26-year-old Kenyan, who represented his country in the 10,000m at both the 2022 World Championships and 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, is a classy half marathon performer, clocking a slick time of 58:17 for second in Valencia last year. However, it was on his return to the Spanish port city five weeks later when he most impressed over the classic distance, registering a personal best of 2:04:24 for third in the Valencia Marathon.

The improving Haymanot Alew completes the NN Running Team trio in Boston. The Ethiopian made his marathon debut in 2022 and the following season registered third place finishes at both the Dubai (2:05:57) and Lanzhou Marathons (2:11:10)

Last year, however, was his finest to date. Finishing second at both the Mumbai (2:09:13) and Hamburg Marathons (2:05:30), he climaxed his season by making a huge advance at the Berlin Marathon. Wiping almost two minutes from his personal best, the Ethiopian clocked an impressive 2:03:31 to point to his huge future potential in the marathon.

Yalemzerf Yehualaw will aim to add another chapter to her already glittering career as she seeks success in the women’s race.

The Ethiopian – who is the fifth fastest half marathoner in history following her stunning 1:03:51 set in Valencia in 2021 – enjoyed a brilliant debut marathon season in 2022 clinching top spot at both the HASPA Hamburg and TCS London Marathons.

Yehualaw returned to the winners’ circle in style at the 2024 TCS Amsterdam Marathon, registering an impressive PB of 2:16:52. She maintained her winning run with victory in the Dubai Half Marathon in February (1:07:09) and will be among the favoured athletes as she takes to the streets of Boston for the first time.
