Bank of America Chicago Marathon Preview and How To Watch

Geoffrey Kamworor, a long-time leading light for the NN Running Team, is set to embrace a new challenge when taking to the streets this Sunday for the 2025 Bank of America Chicago Marathon.

The former world half marathon and world cross country champion is unquestionably an athlete of the highest calibre.

A two-time former winner of the TCS New York City Marathon, the 32-year-old Kenyan has banked no less than seven podium finishes at Abbott World Marathon Majors to prove he will be a threat on his debut in the “Windy City.”

Buoyed by an excellent victory in the NN Marathon Rotterdam in April, recording 2:04:33 – just ten seconds shy of his PB – he approaches his latest challenge full of confidence where he will hope to once again mount a strong challenge.

Bolstering the men’s challenge in Chicago is Mohamed Esa, who claimed second spot in this race - in a PB of 2:04:39 - 12 months ago.

The Ethiopian has racked up an impressive record in Abbott World Marathon Majors also placing second in Tokyo (2023) and Boston (2024) and should also prove a significant threat on Sunday.

Haven Hailu, the NN Running Team’s representative in the women’s race, will take confidence from setting a PB of 2:19:17 when fourth in the TCS London Marathon in April.

Hailu, 27, made her marathon debut in 2020 and has posed a consistent threat over the 42.2km distance. A former winner of both the NN Marathon Rotterdam and Osaka Marathon  she also boasts two podium finishes in the TCS Amsterdam Marathon.

She had a rare off day when recording a DNF in the 2022 Chicago Marathon but on her return to Illinois she will be optimistic of a much stronger showing.
