The exciting, young Spanish talent has already shown rich potential on all surfaces and his future progression within the NN Running Team will be watched with interest.
Born in the town of Nerja in the Costa Del Sol to Moroccan parents, he first revealed his talent at the age of just 15 when finished fourth over 3000m in the 2015 Spanish U20 Championships.
The following year on his international debut he placed a respectable seventh in the 3000m at the European Youth Championships in Tbilisi before continuing his progress by placing 23rd in the U20 race at the 2017 European Cross Country Championships.
In 2018 he was crowned Spanish U20 Indoor 1500m and Cross Country champion and later that year earned a major breakthrough on the international stage when winning silver – finishing just nine seconds behind Norwegian running prodigy Jakob Ingebrigtsen – in the U20 race at the European Cross Country Championships in Tilburg.
Spanish senior cross country success followed in 2019, and on the day of his 20th birthday he revealed his ability to compete with the leading senior athletes when placing 20th at the World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus.
A stress fracture of the sacrum ruled him out of competing during the 2019 track season but he bounced back in 2020.
Despite the restricted season caused by the global pandemic, Ouassim posted a national U23 5000m record of 13:13.14 in Monaco and also set a Spanish 5km road record of 13:19 en route to victory in Nijmegen.
